Employment as an Industrial Engineer
Industrial engineeringĀ is anĀ engineeringĀ profession that is concerned with the optimization of complex processes, systems, or organizations by developing, improving and implementing integrated systems of people, money, knowledge, information, equipment, energy and materials.
Industrial Engineers typically have these skills:
- Bachelor's Degree or other 4-year Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a relevant field
- Understand high level processes within the various departments throughout Operations
- Demonstrate initiative in identifying process improvements
- Understand Line Balancing techniques to reduce work in process
- Proficient in managing projects, including budget and RIO calculations
- Ability to communicate ideas at all levels throughout the organization
- Ability to work well in a team-based environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Visio, and AutoCAD
Other Industrial Engineering duties may include:
- Review request for proposals and providing corresponding labor cost estimates, solution response and presentation, and integration/deployment of awarded opportunity
- Analyze pace and capacity of facilities with current and forecasted volumes to determine utilization rates
- Analyze the workflows and capital resources
- Assess the techniques, staffing and equipment utilized to determine production rates and capacities
- Recommend changes to work methods, safety measures and labor organization
- Develop labor standards by analyzing work samples, work flow, methods of production and operator techniques
